AGE staff appointed to stakeholder group of European occupational pension authority EIOPA

AGE has been successful in its bid to be represented in a high-level stakeholder group of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). The Occupational Pensions Stakeholder' Group has a role in advising EIOPA in all matters relating to occupational (second-pillar) pensions. The Stakeholders Group brings together representatives of occupational pension providers, beneficiaries, academics, employees and professional associations.

The OPSG has the task to advise EIOPA in the application of financial regulations and the drafting of recommendations and guidelines referring to occupational pensions in Europe. After the adoption of a new directive concerning occupational pension providers (the IORP-II-directive), new standards are put into place to increase the transparency of occupational retirement providers and better inform consumers. It will be AGE's task to monitor how these are applied and bring the voice of beneficiaries to the group. Another beneficiaries' representative in the group is the President of AGE's member organisation Maltese National Pensioners' Association.

Unfortunately, only 1/3 of the members of the stakeholder group are women and beneficiaries are only 8 out of 30 members of the group. The same day, EIOPA also appointed new members to its stakeholder group on insurance and reinsurance.
