How to strengthen Member States’ economic policy coordination without increasing social imbalances?

So far, national strategies to exit the crisis have been overwhelmingly driven by public finances austerity measures, often to the detriment of social objectives. Drastic cuts have been introduced in programmes fighting against poverty and social care services provision which are central concerns for the 150 million Europeans in later life. Therefore, looking at the Commission proposal, one wonders whether it is ambitious enough to rebalance policy mix between social and economic objectives. How will the proposed scoreboard of employment and social indicators help achieve the Europe 2020 social objectives? And finally how will the scoreboard address the situation of older workers or older people in poverty?
