On 4th December 2018, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium took part in a roundtable on “Ageing is our future: Let’s build it together” organized in the Brussels Royal Palace. Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General of AGE Platform Europe explained why it is urgent to combat ageism in all its forms and create a society for all ages where no one is left behind. Everyone has the right to dignity and respect, including older persons with severe dependency needs. “The more our society is ageing, the less it is adapting to the needs of older citizens. The real problem is not increased longevity but the fact that the healthy life year expectancy is not improving in parallel due to pervasive ageism.” said Parent.
