On 20 March, the European Parliament, EU Council and Commission found an agreement on a directive to guarantee access to a basic payments account for all citizens “irrespective of residence or financial situation”.
The directive provides for the right to open a payment account allowing to perform essential operations, such as receiving one’s salary, pensions and allowances or payment of utility bills etc. It also provides for more transparency to facilitate banking fees identification and comparation and make it easier to change banks.
