Civil society organisations pave the way for a new EU Equality agenda

On 11 July, together with more than 140 civil society organisations, AGE sent a joint statement to newly established EU officials, political parties and some Member States calling for including equality and non-discrimination as core priorities of the new European Union agenda.

As the European Union leaders are deciding on priorities for the 2024-2029 cycle, the joint statement sets out 9 key recommendations for action to ensure that all EU institutions prioritise equality and non-discrimination over the next five years.

Some of our recommendations includes:

  • The appointment of a Commissioner for Equality and Fundamental Rights
  • The introduction of new strategies to address grounds that are not already covered
  • The robust funding of equality civil society organisations
  • The establishment of a new Directorate-General for Equality and Fundamental Rights
  • and more…
