Connecting Generations: ANCeSCAO A.P.S. Builds Solidarity Across Ages

ANCeSCAO A.P.S.

Our Italian member ANCeSCAO A.P.S. carries out many intergenerational activities throughout the year in different cities across Italy. These initiatives bring together people of all ages to learn from each other, share experiences, and build stronger communities.

The goal is to create connection between generations, which is essential to face the challenges of today’s world – such as social isolation across all age groups, digital gaps and climate change.

Activities include workshops, cultural events, digital training, and shared projects between young and older people. These moments help build understanding, respect, and cooperation across age groups.

Testimonies

Here are some testimonies from the participants of these initiatives:

La strada del benessere – Centro Sociale e Culturale ANCeSCAO Cannara (Perugia – Umbria)

“I am Alessandra, and together with our volunteers and members, we walk “the path to well-being” with young and older people, sharing trips and excursions in the area.
We believe that in modern society, everyone can face situations of fragility and distress. By bringing different generations together, we can find the right solutions to bridge the gaps on both sides, supporting each other and learning from experiences. Our project aims to promote active aging and sharing through storytelling and knowledge of places.”

ANCeSCAO Umbria Sud - Ellera di Corciano (Perugia - Umbria)

ANCeSCAO Umbria Sud – Ellera di Corciano (Perugia – Umbria)

“I am Angelo and along with other members of the Social Centers of Ellera and Gubbio, I have had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of using computers and smartphones thanks to the help of a young university student. During a 40-hour course, we learned to use online public administration services, which greatly simplified our lives! The course was carried out as part of the project “Intergenerational Digitalization for the Development of Community Generative Welfare,” joined by ANCeSCAO A.P.S. in the Umbria region and several local Social Centers.

Associazione ANCeSCAO Amici e Anziani di Roe e dintorni - Sedico (Belluno - Veneto)

Associazione ANCeSCAO Amici e Anziani di Roe e dintorni – Sedico (Belluno – Veneto)

“I am Natalina, an older woman from Roe in the province of Belluno. For several years, our older members have been meeting with children from the local kindergarten. Together, we read stories, talk about how our lives were when we were their age, and even bake delicious cookies.
For older children, during the summer, we teach the art of embroidery and create various objects together.
Thanks to these meetings, we all become richer in spirit, and we feel useful to the community!

ANCeSCAO Comprensorio di Viterbo - Viterbo (Lazio)

ANCeSCAO Comprensorio di Viterbo – Viterbo (Lazio)

“I am Rosalba, and I present to you the literary contest “Writing is Beautiful,” open to different generations. The young participants highlighted issues of their age related to friendship and school, shared their views on ecology, and expressed a desire for peace based on authentic human relationships. Writing has taught us that emotions and feelings are not a matter of age but a heritage shared by all. Sharing through writing helps us understand each other better and enrich our community, making it more cohesive.

Centro Sociale ANCeSCAO Ruozi - Bologna (Emilia-Romagna

Centro Sociale ANCeSCAO Ruozi – Bologna (Emilia-Romagna)

“I am Angela, and I introduce you to the “Strada Facendo” project, a listening initiative aimed at young people often in problematic situations.
Much like Pasolini’s film “Love Meetings,” we have built a dialogue between different generations and contexts. Through interviews with people of various ages and expertise – from older members of social centers to university professors – we explored the theme of adolescent psycho-social well-being in a challenging historical period, understanding that differences in a complex society are a valuable asset.

Circolo Pensionati ANCeSCAO di Balsorano – Balsorano (L’Aquila – Abruzzo

“I am Michelino, and in Balsorano, in the heart of Italy, the Pensioners’ Club is at the center of many wonderful moments where young people, older people, and the entire community come together around shared values, traditions, and local culture.
Together, armed with buckets and shovels, we became archaeologists for a day, discovering the history and stories of our town, and had fun parading in historical costumes.

Centro ANCeSCAO Le Contrade APS - Portomaggiore (Ferrara - Emilia-Romagna)

Centro ANCeSCAO Le Contrade APS – Portomaggiore (Ferrara – Emilia-Romagna)

“I am Catia, and since the end of January, our Center has been implementing the project “Step by Step… Walking Together.”
The project involves young people, older people, and people with disabilities from the area, engaging them in recreational and leisure activities. For example, we use music and dance as a universal and socializing language.
Through these activities, we aim to address youth distress, combat involuntary loneliness, and foster the creation of “prevention networks” through relationships with families and local services.
