MEP Eduard Kukan questions the EC on the implementation of the Employment Equality Directive

Following a question submitted last November by the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Eduard Kukan underlining that despite the adoption of the Employment Equality Directive in 2000, age discrimination in the labour market has been increasing since the financial and economic crisis, the European Commission states its efforts to fight age discrimination and monitor the situation in the Member States, but also recalls the responsibility of the Member States to transpose the Directive.

In 2015, as part of the European Semester, several Member States received country specific recommendations on improving family support services, work-life balance, skills upgrading and the harmonisation of the retirement age between men and women.
