As part of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012, the European Commission has just launched the European Year 2012 Awards in order to celebrate organisations and individuals that promote active ageing and solidarity between generations through their activities.
The EY2012 Awards includes six categories:
- Workplaces for all Ages, open to employers, trade unions and not-for-profit organisations that promote better working conditions for older employees;
- Towards Age-Friendly Environments, open to regional or local authorities that create an age-friendly environment (inclusive and accessible local environment which facilitates active ageing and improves the quality of life of all generations) ;
- Social Entrepreneurs, open to social entrepreneurs which are promoting active ageing and solidarity between generations;
- Reporting on Ageing and Relations between Generations, open to journalists (written and audio-visual media) whose work have contributed to a better understanding of the challenges of an ageing population and the way to address them;
- Life Story Challenge, open to members of the younger generation which are invited to tell the story of an active older person and present his/her noteworthy contribution he/she is making in the family, in society, or at work;
- Generations@school>, this category recognises the most creative intergenerational projects realised under the ‘generations@school project’, open from March to 30 June.
The competition (with the exception of the ‘generations@school‘ category) is open to all citizens of EU Member States until 1 September 2012.
The finalists in each category will be invited to the EY2012 Active Ageing Awards ceremony, which is planned to take place in Brussels in November.
