The Berlin Demography Days 2021 will discuss current issues of German, European and global population developments with international experts from the policy arena, societal organisations and the world of research.
On the first day, a panel discussion will address the topic “The Baby Boomers are Retiring – Chances and Challenges for Generational Fairness” with European Commission Vice-President Dubravka Šuica as a keynote speaker. Followed by the European Demographer Awards and the presentation of four outstanding young researchers from Barcelona, London, Oxford / Odense and Paris.
On the second day, internationally renowned researchers will discuss with participants the connection between demography, democracy and the welfare state in Europe. The lectures will deal, for example, with the question of equal access to the welfare state, aspects of generational justice, issues of social inequality and the effects of demographic changes on the composition of the electorate.
The third day will look at how we can use data to solve current problems of the Global South. Leading researchers from Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA will present research results on the topics of ageing society, family and fertility, gender, human capital, migration and mortality.
