Each year the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organises the ‘Civil Society Days’ to debate issues that are important to citizens. This years’ civil society days will focus on citizenship and cultures in a digital Europe, and AGE will co-organise a panel on ‘empowerment to bridge the digital divide on 24 May.

The Civil Society Days on 24-25 May 2018 will focus on digitalisation of society, its potential and its challenges for citizens. Panel discussions will include culture and education, identity and polarisation, cybersecurity and personal data, digital democracy, the digital divide and artificial intelligence as a common good. Together with the European Disability Forum, AGE aims to bring to the agenda the discussion on who can and cannot benefit from digital transformations underway, and how public authorities can reach out and empower citizens to participate. The discussion will focus on the perspectives of older people, of persons with disabilities and of rural communities. The workshop will take place from 16:00 to 18:0 on Thursday 24 May.
