The corona pandemic has made clear that citizens have high expectations of the EU. The initial difficulties in vaccine supply reduced confidence in the crisis management of the EU. Meanwhile, Europe is on a good path to come out of the crisis together. A majority of Europeans are convinced that the fight against Corona needs European solutions. They expect a lot from the EU and want it to get better.
Could the Conference on the Future of Europe help to restore citizens’ confidence in the European project? “The European Union has to show that it can provide answers to citizens’ concerns and ambitions” stated the Joint Declaration on the Conference on the Future of Europe. Katja Meier, State Minister of Justice and for Democracy, European Affairs and Gender Equality of the Free State of Saxony, and Dubravka Šuica, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Democracy and Demography as well as Co-Chair of the Executive Committee on the Conference on the Future of Europe, will discuss how this can be achieved.
