We have joined forces with the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) and the European Network of Equality Bodies (Equinet) to discuss with policy actors and experts ways to strengthen protection against age discrimination in Europe.
Adequate legal frameworks and public policies addressing ageism at both national and international levels are essential to fully benefit from longer lives and ensure equality at all ages. Yet, at the European level, there is still no formal commitment to advancing equality at all ages.
This online roundtable, “The missing piece in striving for equality in Europe: the case of age discrimination“, aims to:
- Increase understanding of the existing gaps in the EU policy and legal framework on ageing and age discrimination;
- Generate concrete ideas to fight ageism and strive towards the respect and protection of the human rights of older persons at European level;
- Discuss ways of collaboration between European policy actors, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), National Equality Bodies (NEBs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to drive next steps towards a more equal, age-friendly Europe.
