AGE member organisation the European Seniors’ Union (ESU) and the Office of International IDEA to the European Union are organizing a joint cross-party symposium on ‘Supporting inclusive governance for sustainable democracy’ to mark the European Day of Solidarity between Generations (29th April).
The event will consist of the Keynote and a round of statements delivered by the representatives European political parties followed by the panel discussion on “Involving generations in Dialogue for Democracy and European inter-generational leadership”. European Commissioner Ms. Marianne Thyssen will deliver a Keynote Address during the event. AGE Platform Europe has been invited to voice the perspectives of the senior generation on this topic and deliver the closing remarks.
The objective of the annual celebration is to promote solidarity between generations, and changing political challenges into opportunities in relation to demographic gaps or social and political exclusion on the basis of generational divides. The European Day of Solidarity between Generations celebrated on 29th April provides an opportunity for authorities at all levels and across the political landscape, to take stock of progress and outline priorities, together with civil society organizations and actors in the field of solidarity between generations.
Based on the interventions and the panel discussion outcomes, the co-hosts will endeavor to develop complementary recommendations that could guide all stakeholders to further facilitate and strengthen inter-generational solidarity.
