VISAL training course on learning needs of visually impaired older persons

VISAL_logo As part of the EU-funded VISAL project, which aims to promote lifelong learning among visually impaired seniors, British and Dutch experts on visual impairment and older age developped a VISAL training course tailor-made to both the age- and disability-related specific learning needs of older persons.

The 2017 VISAL facilitators training course will be hosted by the Polish Association of the Blind in Warsaw on 11-12 May 2017.

Since 2013, 10 countries have joined the VISAL adventure and you are welcome to organise courses in your own country too.

VISAL courses will be beneficial to your organisation as they increase service provision with a course that meets the urgent needs of older persons with visual impairments on issues such as adapted learning contents, social skills, self-esteem, active involvement in society, etc. VISAL courses also increase your organisation’s visibility with public and private bodies such as health units, third age universities, retirement homes, etc.

More information on VISAL is available here.

Led by experienced VISAL facilitators from Croatia and Austria, the training course is aimed at participants ideally with good knowledge of visual impairments and older age willing to:

  • plan, organise and facilitate a VISAL course in their country,
  • assure correct use of the VISAL toolkit,
  • guide elderly blind and partially sighted participants during VISAL sessions.

The training programme is available here and here the registration form (Word document).

In return, participants and their organisations will be responsible for holding at least one full VISAL course of 7 sessions by 31 November 2017.
