Care work includes taking care of children, older persons, the sick, and the disabled, as well as domestic work such as cleaning and cooking. Caregivers may be paid professionals, unpaid family members and friends, and community members. Studies show that 76% of unpaid care work, and more than 70% of paid care work, is done by women.
The Working Group on Discrimination Against Women and Girls is preparing a report on the gendered dimensions of care and support system, which will be presented to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council in June 2025. To support the preparation of this report, the working group is seeking input about national and sub-national policies and programs at a country and regional level that support receivers of care and caregivers – whether they are paid or unpaid. To that end, they have developed a questionnaire in English, French and Spanish.
Submissions can be made until 25 November 2024.
