How to activate older people in senior volunteering?

The project ‘Let us be active! – Social inclusion of older people through volunteering in Estonia, Latvia and Finland’ (2015-2016), aims to promote senior volunteering to increase social inclusion and wellbeing in old age, while making use of older people’s valuable skills and experience. After a survey on senior volunteering carried out last autumn, the project looks at how to best activate older people.

It reveals that getting inspired from the experience of other senior volunteers is important, as well as developing new forms of activities that meet the interest and needs of older people. ‘Pop-up’ volunteering activities should also be facilitated for seniors willing to volunteer without a long-lasting commitment.
