International Day of Older People: A Europe for All Ages

Event Information:

📅Wednesday, 2 October 2024 | 🕒 15h00-17h00 CEST
📍European Parliament | Brussels, Belgium | Registration is mandatory here

On 2 October 2024, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), AGE Platform Europe, and its members (over 100 organisations representing and supporting older people across Europe) will gather to promote the recommendations outlined in the AGE Manifesto, in light of the nominations for a new European Commission. The event will be held to mark and celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, observed on 1 October.

The International Day of Older Persons celebrates the rights of older people around the world. It presents a unique opportunity to call upon the new European Parliament and the new European Commission to ensure that we enjoy the same rights when we are older, and to effectively combat age discrimination across all areas of society.

The event will also highlight the Intergenerational Declaration drawn up together by AGE Platform Europe with the European Youth Forum in the context of MEET Project, which underlines the importance of dialogue, understanding and connection between generations.

It serves as a call to action to foster a Europe for all ages, where young and old support and complement one another, and where intergenerational exchanges are valued.

The event will be hosted by MEP Idoia Mendía Cueva (S&D).
