After campaigning actively for its re-establishment, AGE is really pleased to announce that the Intergroup dealing with ageing and intergenerational issues is formally re-establishedunder the name: 'Intergroup on Active Ageing, Intergenerational Solidarity and Families Policies'.
Although they have no formal legislative power, the European Parliament selects a limited number of Intergroups that bring together groups of MEPs interested to debate and work together on specific issues . "This intergroup will allow us to work more closely with MEPs to help address Europe's demographic challenge through the promotion of a society for all ages that supports the active participation of older citizens, enhances economic growth, supports greater social justice and cohesion and strengthens the rights and responsibilities of all generations",as Anne-Sophie Parent, AGE Platform Europe's Secretary-General, stated in a press release.
This re-establishment rewards AGE's active campaign, which sought to mobilize MEPs, both at European and national levels (through AGE's secretariat and member organisations).
The activities of the Intergroup on Active Ageing, Intergenerational Solidarity and Familiy Policies will be monitored on AGE blog "Towards an Age-Friendly European Parliament", which we hope will become an interactive online platform on the European Parliament's initiatives in relation to ageing and demographic issues.
