AGE receives status to lodge complaints to the European Committee of Social Rights

After receiving the participatory status with the Council of Europe (CoE) AGE Platform Europe (AGE) has been included in the list of NGOs which can lodge complaints to the European Committee on Social Rights. This Committee rules on the conformity in law and in practice with the provisions of the European Social Charter, a CoE treatywhich guarantees social and economic human rights, such as housing, education, employment, as well as the protection of the family, elderly, children and people with disabilities.

Social partners and International NGOS (INGOs), such as AGE, can submit collective complaints regarding the non-implementation of the Charter in the countries which have accepted its provisions and the complaints procedure. AGE members can now, thanks to this new status granted to AGE, bring to the attention of the Committee breaches of the rights of older persons aiming to amend the national situation with regard to how the rights enshrined in the Charter are applied to older persons in practice by the different States. AGE has prepared a paper explaining the procedure of collective complaints and how AGE members can be involved, which is available upon request at This email address is being protected from spambots.
