AGE wins award for our work on non-discrimination

NonDiscrimination_Award-2019-Nena For the past 19 years, Fira Gran, a Spanish foundation based in Barcelona, has been giving out awards recognizing the work of older individuals, organisations and initiatives that improve quality of life and participation in older age. Our work to fight age discrimination was distinguished and won the award for an initiative in favour of older people. The award was received by Nena Georgantzi, Human Rights Officer. On the same day several other awards were given celebrating the life contributions of older people in culture and sports as well as in the professional and social environment.

View the full list of winners here. The winners of the awards were selected after consulting the local authorities of Barcelona and Catalunya, older people’s organisations’ and professional associations.

This distinction is very important for AGE as it illustrates that the work that we do at EU and international level can have a real value in a national and local context. It is thanks to our Catalan members that have been promoting our work in their advocacy and using it in meetings with local stakeholders that our work on age discrimination gained visibility and appreciation.
