Ageing deserves a White Paper! – AGE replies to State of the Union address

2021-State-of-the-Union-speech

Following the State of the Union address of the President of the European Commission, we express our concerns regarding the follow-up to be given to the Green Paper on Ageing. We very much regret that no word was said about how the European Commission wants to make our ageing societies a place for all ages. We believe this is a missed opportunity.

In our open letter to Ursula von der Leyen, we remind that ageing is an important topic that deserves a comprehensive White Paper, which would propose concrete EU policy initiatives in support to national reforms. To help address the major challenges and opportunities raised by the ageing of the EU population we have developed a concrete proposal, namely an ‘Age Equality Strategy’, which could fit into the initiatives proposed by the European Commission as a follow-up of the Green Paper.
