Transitions between care services – moving from home to a residential facility, or from the hospital to home, for instance – are challenging moments in life. This is also certainly the case for older people with care needs. Such transitions are often avoidable, or the way in which they are performed – often overlooking the wishes of the older person – can cause huge distress and diminish self-esteem.
We are partners of the project and will host two ESRs for short periods to benefit from their research and contribute to their understanding of the realities and demands of older persons in Europe.
Moreover, last 21 October, Borja Arrue, AGE’s Project and Policy Officer responsible for long-term care, took part in their training event in Halle, Germany. Borja presented our human rights-based approach to long-term care, based on our campaigning work to fight ageism. He encouraged ESRs, when performing their research, to look into the impacts of ageism on the ability of older persons in need of care and support to make their own decisions and live in dignity.
