“Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity: challenges and opportunities”, Cagliari, Italy, 23 June 2012

This was the title of the conference organised by Focus Europe, Laboratory for the European Integration, and Europe Direct, and hosted by the Province of Cagliari, Italy under the aegis of the European Year 2012.

In the light of the recent Ageing Report 2012 and the current demographic trends, the conference called on representatives of the Province, the Region of Sardinia, the CNR – Italian National Research Center, among other speakers, to discuss with the local audience gathered in a very hot Saturday morning.

AGE Platform was invited to present its activities towards a society for all ages, within the first panel devoted to the valorisation of senior citizens. Ilenia Gheno introduced the European Year campaign, its awards and challenges, while Mrs. Anna Maria Matarazzo from the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministry provided the national perspective and Ms. Chiara Bacci from the Committee of the Regions provided with some regional best practices for active ageing and intergenerational solidarity. Mr. Bruno Constantini from FERPA and Nazareno Capecchi from SENIORES Italia animated the second panel, where they provided some insights on volunteering and some key feedback from the European Year after this half-way path.
