It links actions to create more age-friendly environments to the broader context of European health and social policies for ageing populations. The publication is aimed to provides inspiration and guidance for local policy-makers and planners on eight domains for policy action, which cover both the physical and social environment as well as community services and which are used as point of reference by WHO and by local governments in Europe.
The handbook is the outcome of the Age-friendly environments in Europe (AFEE) project, a joint project between the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, which was developed in close cooperation with AGE Platform Europe.
