The European Commission has released the evaluation report of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 (EY2012), which reviews the implementation, results and overall achievements of the Year, building on the conclusions of an external evaluation.
Among the many initiatives developed, the report mentions the brochure “How to promote active ageing in Europe”, published by AGE Platform Europe with the support of the Committee of the Regions, and the work of the EY2012 Stakeholder Coalition which we led.
The document further calls for the momentum built up during the Year to be maintained, through the different tools developed on that occasion such as the guiding principles on active ageing, the Active Ageing Index and the Covenant on Demographic Change, which we have been advocating for together with the EY2012 Coalition. This Covenant aims at providing a framework allowing local and regional policy makers to commit to taking new measures in response to ageing and is now being pursued in the context of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) and its action group on ‘Innovation for age-friendly, buildings cities and environments’, we are part of.
