From 25 January to 5 February HelpAge International launched a two-week campaign in order to mobilise support in favour of a United Nations convention on older people’s rights.
The objective of the #ItsAboutRights digital campaign is three-fold:
- Promote new ways of talking and thinking about a UN convention based on the best evidence available about what is effective,
- Raise awareness of how older people’s rights have been affected by the pandemic, bringing to life real human stories,
- Encourage more people in the ageing community to advocate for a UN convention with the help of HelpAge’s new “It’s about rights” toolkit. This toolkit is designed to help make a case for older people’s rights and a UN convention and influence governments in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A second stage of the campaign will start again in March before the meeting of the UN Open-ended Working Group on Ageing, when key discussions on older people’s rights will take place.
