Rights of persons with disabilities and digital technologies and devices

Our policy paper is a response to a consultation on digitalisation and disability carried out at United Nations’ level.  It aims to provide input for a Human Rights Council resolution on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Our contribution focuses on the particular challenges of older people with disabilities in using digital technologies – including assistive technologies – and their impact on the equal enjoyment of human rights in old age. While we acknowledge the positive change new technologies can bring, we also highlights the barriers created by too rapid digitalisation and the impact it has on older people’s autonomy, participation and dignity.

We also look at existing solutions and provide recommendations for improvement.
